Sports
Participating in physical education and sport has many positive benefits for children's healthy development. Our school provides a range of sporting opportunities for all children, both inside and outside of school.
Marina View School has a Cross Country in August each year where students compete in their relevant year level. Year 3-8 students are given the opportunity to run the competitive Cross Country Run, from which the top placing students from each year level (Year 5-8) go on to represent Marina View School at the North West Cross Country Zone Day held at Muriwai.
Marina View has two Athletics Days. The junior school Athletics Day is usually held in December each year, while the senior school students are given the opportunity to attend a competitive Athletics Day earlier in the year. Depending on results, some students may go onto represent Marina View School at the North West Zone Athletics Competition.
Throughout the year, Marina View School participates in a number of local sporting competitions, which are available for all students across the year levels.
Marina View School participates in the Massey YMCA Basketball League, which runs across 2 seasons (Season 1 – Term 1 & 2) and (Season 2 – Term 3 & 4).
Registrations are sent out at the beginning of the year, and students are then placed into teams or trialled if necessary. We require parent help with coaching and managing our Basketball Teams, with support from our school sports coordinators.
Marina View School participates in the North West Junior Touch League, based at Moire Park in Massey. The competition runs during Term 1 and Term 4.

Marina View School enters teams into two local netball leagues. Our Year 1 – 6 teams play at the KidzPlay Netball Leagues based at Pinehurst School in Albany. Our Year 7-8 teams play at Netball Waitakere based at Te Pai Courts in Henderson.
Registrations are sent out towards the end of term 1, and students are then placed into teams or trialled if necessary. We usually have a large number of teams so require parent help with coaching and managing the teams, with support from our school sports coordinators.
Marina View School participates in the North Harbour Hockey League, based at North Harbour Hockey Stadium in Rosedale, Albany. The competition runs during from the start of Term 2 to the end of Term 3. Year 3-6 teams play on a Monday afternoon/evening and Intermediate teams play on a Tuesday afternoon/evening.

For Years 0-2, North Harbour Hockey run a Midget session on Saturday mornings – registrations for these sessions are made directly with North Harbour Hockey, not through the school.
Marina View School Sport Code of Conduct for Parent & Supporters
Throughout the year, students in years 5 – 8 have the opportunity to represent Marina View School in various sport codes at the North West Inter-school competitions.
Students are trialled and then train to prepare for the zone days. Marina View School competes in Touch Rugby, Rippa Rugby, Tag, Volleyball, Swimming, Football, Netball, Hockey, Table Tennis, Tennis, Basketball, Tee Ball, Softball, Orienteering, Badminton, Chess, Cross Country and Athletics.
The AIMS Games is an annual sporting event which involves Year 7 and 8 students from around the country competing in 23 different codes over the week.
Marina View school have entered teams in Basketball, Mixed Rippa Rugby, Netball and Hockey in the past, with great success. Lots of planning and preparation is required for this competition, and we rely on whānau help with fundraising, training and support in the lead up to, and during the competition week.
