Digital Learning

Digital learning is integrated throughout the school day and the curriculum to support students’ learning

Digital Devices at School

At Marina View School we give an opportunity to our Year 6, 7 and 8 students, to bring their own devices to school. We would like to emphasize that this is optional and not compulsory. However, we really encourage children to bring their own devices to use in class, to support their learning.

It is our aim to develop in our students the capability, skills and attitudes that will enable them to be learners for life. We want our young people to grow and develop, knowing and applying the qualities and characteristics of lifelong learners.

Our overall goal at Marina View School is to empower students to achieve and make a difference. Technology is an element to engage students and have students engage in their learning, therefore, the objective of ‘Bringing their own Personalised Learning Device’ is to develop an environment that caters for 21st century learning.

All students who bring a device must first sign the Cybersafety Student Agreement along with their parents. They must also have read the Student Responsibilities and Device Requirements documentation attached to the agreement.

GAFE (Google Apps for Education)

As part of our developments to support digital E-learning at school we have moved our staff to Google Apps for Education (GAFE), in 2014. From this, we see the educational benefits of having all of the school using GAFE. Currently our Year 6-8 students have their own GAFE account. This is really exciting as your child will be able to create their own learning space where they can store, share and collaborate their work.

Essentially, GAFE is a cloud based learning platform allowing teachers and students to create a range of documents online. GAFE allows us to collaborate and learn more effectively through the use of technology, and offers a range of new learning opportunities for teachers and students.

If you have any questions about student devices, you can email Colin Gover: info@marinaview.school.nz

Cyber Safety at Marina View

Whilst use of the Internet brings enormous benefits to the teaching and learning opportunities available at school, we are also aware of understandable parental concerns regarding its use in the classroom. The school Cyber Safety policy aim to address these issues.

We believe that encouraging appropriate use of the Internet is a shared responsibility of schools and parents. The school office can give parents a copy of the Cyber Safety agreement. One part of our safety procedures is to ask you to talk to your children about our safety rules and to sign the form to show that you have read these guidelines and agree to abide by them. Please return the signed portion to the school office.

If you would rather that your child does not have access to the Internet in their classroom, please make sure the classroom teacher is aware of this.

We also update and present students work and photos of school functions on the website and in the newsletter. If you do not want your child’s photo to appear please contact the school.

Rules For Cyber Safety

01

I cannot use the Internet at School without signing and handing in this Use Agreement.

02

School computers are to help me with classroom learning.

03

It is important to keep safe while using the Internet. This means I must follow the school’s safety rules.

04

The only time I can use the Internet and email at school is when a teacher is supervising me.

05

I am not allowed to try and look up things on the Internet which I know are not for children. This might be dangerous mean or rude material. Some of it is against the law. (If I do not understand I will ask my teacher)

06

I must be sensible when using computers and electronic devices. I know that I must not do anything that would hurt me or someone else, even as a joke.
