Cultural

Our school celebrates the bi-cultural nature of Aotearoa New Zealand. Within the classroom, children learn about Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori and Te Reo Māori. This helps our children develop a rich and deep understanding of our country.

Kapa haka

Marina View School has a Junior Kapa Haka and a Senior Kapa Haka group, who practise weekly. We have a large number of students from across the school who participate as proud Kapa Haka members. Our group perform throughout the year. They support Mihi Whakatau for new students and staff at the start of each term and any special events that we hold.

Te Reo

Te Reo is a treasure of Aotearoa New Zealand. We are committed to promoting the use of Te Reo and tikanga Māori in our School.

Korean Language

Marina View School has a Korean language teacher who runs Korean lessons in Year 7 & 8. Classes are designed for the students to engage in a journey of language learning and cultural exploration.

Through interactive lessons, fun activities and immersive experiences, the children will develop essential language skills and gain a deeper understanding of Korean traditions, music and more.

E toru ngā mea

Lyrics:

E toru ngā mea
Ngā mea nu-nui
E kī ana
Te Paipera
Tūmana-ko
Wha-ka-pono
Ko te mea nui
Ko te aro-ha.

He Honore

Lyrics:

Tūtira mai ngā iwi
Tātou tātou e
Tūtira mai ngā iwi
Tātou tātou e
Whaia te māramatanga me te aroha
– e ngā iwi!
Kia ko tapatahi,
Kia kotahi rā.
Tātou tātou e.
Tā – tou, tā – tou e!!
Hi aue hi !

Tane chant - Te Pou

Purea nei e te hau
Horoia e te ua
Whitiwhitia e te ra
Mahea ake nga poraruraru
Makere ana nga here.

Te Aroha

Me te rangimārie
Tātou, tātou e

Tūtira mai ngā iwi

Tūtira mai ngā iwi
Tātou tātou e
Tūtira mai ngā iwi
Tātou tātou e
Whaia te māramatanga me te aroha

Kia kotahi rā.
Tātou tātou e.
Tā – tou, tā – tou e!!
Hi aue hi !

Wahine waiata

Lyrics:

Ko au te huru
o tōku whaea (I am the feather of my mother)
E karanga ana
ki tōku maunga (I am calling to my mountain)

Ko au te huru
o tōku whaea

Kaua e ngū (Don’t be silent)
e tapahi makawe (Don’t cut the hair)

Ko ia, ko Hine-nui-te-pō (she is the godess of night)
Tirohia ana ki ngā tohu (Looking for the signs)

I roto i ngā manu (In the birds)
I roto i ngā awe (In the feathers)
I te ahikā (In the burning fires)
I roto i te kōiwi (In human self)

I roto i ngā manu
I roto i ngā awe
I te ahikā
I roto i te kōiwi
